#BLACKCULTURE #BLACKHUSTORY #repost –> @magsmw – Happy 108th birthday to Richard Wright, literary powerhouse - novelist, essayist, poet who sought to bring constant attention to the plight of African-American life in urban and rural settings in the United States. His discontent with that life ultimately lead him to Paris, where he too became an ex-patriate along with James Baldwin, Josephine Baker to name a few. His discontent did not squelch his message and he continued to write essays, novels and poetry until his death. His most notable works, Uncle Tom’s Children, Black Boy and Native Son brought him critical acclaim in print and on stage and screen. These enduring works continue to challenge the systemic racism and violence towards Black Americans which unfortunately continues to this day. I will be revisiting my copy of Native Son soon. Thank you for lending your voice to the struggle. #essayist #poet #novelist #harlem #paris #struggle #racism #haiku #thepenismightierthanthesword 📖📚🖊
