2020 Might Have a Silver Lining for Employees with Disabilities

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month in the U.S., and so, as a part of Ketchum’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion leadership team, I’ve been giving a lot of thought to how we at Ketchum can do a better job of creating a culture of inclusivity for people with disabilities.

As a person with a learning difference, who until recently shied away from being open about my challenges, this process is top of mind. I’m pretty sure anyone at Ketchum who has been on the receiving end of a typo-filled email or pointed out the occasional backwards or inverted

Next Time You Need Top Talent, Hire from Within

While recruitment strategies are important for identifying top-notch talent, overlooking the superstars who are already in your organization can be costly.

LinkedIn’s Global Talent Trends 2020 report found that a robust internal recruitment strategy can reduce employee turnover, which in turn can save companies money. In companies with a high level of internal recruiting, employees stick around 41 percent longer than employees at companies that do little hiring from within.

The report collates survey responses from more than 7,000 talent professionals in 35 countries, as well as from LinkedIn behavioral data and expert interviews.

Google Search Trends Insights September 2020 – AMP Agency

In our continuing series of examining Google Search Trends to gain insights into the top keywords queried in the USA, we present our findings for September 2020.

Every day, we capture the top three keyword phrases in terms of search volume as reported by Google Trends (US Only). Each term has an estimated query volume attached to it, which we also record. The number scale tops out at 10,000,000+ with a lower limit of 200,000+. After the conclusion of the month, we look at the phrases we collected along with their volumes to get an understanding of what drove queries

WHAT ELSE?

Paul Kawkabany – https://www.facebook.com/paul.kawkabany

Coaches at any stage of their training and professional career know the strength and beauty of this question. I like this question very much and find it delicious. Yes, as you read, I find it delicious – for two main reasons:
1.     The simplicity of the question.
2.     The depth this question goes to in a session.

Trained coaches remember how this question accompanied them. Sometimes we think that when we say several things or goals, we think that we must stop because there is nothing else. Then the question comes and opens before us springs

Behind the Scenes on a Healthcare Video Shoot with Purpose

When you work with purpose, the meaning behind the effort awakens something inside, and you realize you are a small part of something much bigger than yourself. It’s a humbling experience.

Consciously working with purpose is a life goal of mine, so the opportunity to work on Atlantic Health System’s “Ask Her” breast cancer awareness campaign, especially during this pandemic, resonated deeply. I’ve had two girlfriends, in their 30s and 40s, diagnosed in the last six months. The urgency behind the message was personal to me, and it drove the work.

Routine care, like a mammogram, may be put

Elections in the Workplace: Make Flexibility the Party Line

What is the right stance for an employer to take during an election? A generation ago, the answer was easy: none. Politics was something you left in the parking lot, and voting was something you did on the way to work or on the way home.

In the age of engagement, those barriers have fallen. With few exceptions, companies won’t openly take sides in the national contest, but they can’t ignore it, either. As we near a U.S. presidential election that is arguably the most divisive of our lifetime—one where the results may be delayed due to an unprecedented number

Advice for a Smooth Return to Work after Maternity Leave

Childcare sorted? Check. Return to work plan agreed? Check. Desperate to abandon my newly acquired baby voice and engage my brain again? Abso-bloody-lutely check. Sense of calm and wellbeing? Not so much.

Getting back to work after maternity leave is ALL the emotions, ranging from distress to elation. Couple that with a return to the workplace* during a pandemic and surely no one can blame me for feeling somewhat daunted.
(*makeshift office at home.)

I’ve just returned from my second mat leave, and I’m not sure I mastered the first return, but then again, self-doubt is just one of the

My Kids Are Voting for the First Time—Here’s What I Told Them

In a few weeks, two of my four children will be participating in a U.S. presidential election for the first time.

Like most families around the globe, we’ve had more togetherness than usual due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and politics has been a bigger topic of conversation at our house this year than in the past. Needless to say, we don’t always agree. Many of my colleagues have reported similar conversations in their own households.

The global spotlight and multiple storylines of this election result in a constant, and sometimes overbearing, newsreel of chaotic conversations on social media and

Strategies for Coaching Leaders

from LaMarsh Global – https://www.lamarsh.com/

Leaders are often incredibly busy. Their role in a change project is essential, and at the same time, their calendar is often filled with essential responsibilities that extend beyond the change initiative.

For Sheila Fain, CEO of LaMarsh Global, coaching is an opportunity to “explore information and perspectives they may not otherwise reflect on.”

Change practitioners can identify risks, potential outcomes, and options. And by asking questions and actively listening, their coaching contributes to leaders making the best decision they can from the information available and what the leader knows about the organization.

“Coaching is

Hispanic Heritage Month 2020—Not the Year for a Fiesta

Each year, many companies, organizations and brands observe the period between September 15 and October 15 as Hispanic Heritage Month—an annual monthlong homage to the Latinx community.

In years past, this observance was marked by brand promotions, large-scale concerts and content designed to celebrate and recognize Latinx “cultura.” Although these activations—whether large or small—have been intended to honor the Latinx community, they’ve often unintentionally perpetuated a stereotype. What’s often gone missing with the typical focus on food and music, with the occasional Latinx superstar or athlete mixed in as a spokesperson, is the recognition that this audience is a compilation

Digital Sports Activations In The COVID Era And Beyond – AMP Agency

Whistles blow (then are quickly sanitized), sneakers screech an ex-ballroom-parquet, and broadcasters emphatically argue a holding call from thousands of miles away, but sports are back.

As it has with many other industries, COVID has spurred innovation and creative problem solving this summer in the sports world, leading to the delivery of some atypical but surprisingly engaging broadcast demonstrations.  Just as in-game atmospheres have grown with the times (gone is the cigarette-smoke filled old Boston Garden where an NHL player once beat a fan with his own shoe), so too must the elements of broadcast.  And while look and feel

Opportunities for Coaching in Change Management

from LaMarsh Global – https://www.lamarsh.com/

Change practitioners often work with people involved with a change: the leaders responsible for or sponsoring a change, and the people that might be impacted by the change (which can often include the leaders).

Even though these are two distinct groups of people with different roles and responsibilities, change practitioners can consider using a coaching approach for both groups.

Coaching strategies are the same when working with leaders or with employees impacted by change, says Judy Searle, Director of Consulting Services at LaMarsh Global. The conversations or communications have to be adapted to the audience,
